Mice. Yuck. Usually these guys have the unfortunate luck of accidentally making their way into your home, but once their in, they can quickly multiply and cause damage and spread disease. They’ve been here for a long time in Hawaii and can quickly get out of control if not dealt with quickly.
Once in a while, we’ve noticed Hawaii can produce explosions of these little pests from the rains, and then have them come into homes (especially on hill sides) as the summer heat dries up their food and water source.
Mice are sometimes hard to discover because they don’t need a whole lot of room to live and thrive. As long as their as water source for them, they can live a happy life in a box of your belongings in the garage or closet.
For some reason, we’ve noticed mice (and rats for that matter!) can be quite attracted to pet food that’s left out. You’d think with cats and dogs around that would discourage rodents from the property, but we’ve found the opposite in Hawaii.
