The scorpions we have in Honolulu and the surrounding areas of Oahu are the little brown scorpion. They aren’t poisonous, but can bite. These bites can cause pain and swelling, much like a centipede sting.
Scorpion Inspection
Like centipedes and spiders, scorpions live under rocks and debris and generally stay out in the wild. They’ll usually get into homes that are located near wilderness areas. For some reason, we’ve noticed them more often in hillsides in Kailua as well as the dryer areas around Makakilo and Kapolei.
Interestingly, male scorpions are eaten by their partner after mating.
Scorpion Control
Because scorpions don’t nest inside, a regular, thorough exterior service will keep those centipedes away if they are in the area. Because what we use has a 30 to 60 day residual, we generally recommend a bi-monthly (every other moth) service plan so that your home is covered for residual protection. We also guarantee our work and will come back in between the regular services if there are any surprise pest problems.
