One of the most common questions we get is: “Eh, do you guys take care of every bug?”
Not quite. And honestly, you don’t want us to.
At Kilauea Pest Control, our job isn’t to wipe out every gecko, beetle, or creepy crawler in Hawaii. If we did, we’d be messing with the environment in ways that wouldn’t be good for anybody. Our focus is simple: keep the pests out of your house, and leave the rest of nature alone.
What We Actually Do: Structural Pests
We’re what’s called a structural pest control company. Fancy way of saying: if it’s chewing your walls, raiding your food, or keeping you up at night, that’s when we step in.
Think:
- Termites eating your house from the inside out
- Ants making a buffet line to your pantry
- Roaches (yes, the B52s too) showing up uninvited
- Rodents scratching in the attic or pooping in the kitchen
That’s our lane — keeping homes and businesses protected from the stuff that actually causes damage and stress.
Why We Don’t Go After Everything
Not every critter is a “pest.” Some are pollinators, some keep other bugs in check, and some are just hanging out in the yard bothering no one.
If we tried to treat everything, we’d end up causing more problems than we’d solve. It would mean disrupting ecosystems, wasting product, and maybe even wiping out the good guys (and yes, believe it or not, there are good bugs).
Bottom line: if it’s not invading your home, we let it be.
The Exceptions: When We Do Step Out of Bounds
That being said, there are times when we step outside the usual “house pests only” rule.
- Wildlife Trapping – Rats, mongooses, even feral chickens — when they get too close to home, we help trap and relocate.
- Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB) – This one’s a big deal. CRB is an invasive beetle that kills coconut trees and threatens Hawaii’s agriculture. This isn’t just about protecting your backyard — it’s about protecting the islands. That’s why we help with eradication efforts when it comes to CRB.
- Little Fire Ants (LFA) – Another serious threat to Hawaii. These tiny ants pack a painful sting, hurt pets and people, and can even damage crops. Unlike other outdoor ants, LFAs are a true invasive pest. When they spread too close to homes, gardens, or community spaces, we step in to help control them.
These are the rare cases where pest control isn’t just about comfort, it’s about preservation.
The Way We See It
Pest control isn’t about wiping out every creepy crawler. It’s about keeping the pests outside, where they belong, and protecting your home on the inside.
Not sure if we handle a certain pest? Just give us a call. If it’s our thing, we’ll take care of it. If it’s not, we’ll point you to the right place.
End of the day, our job isn’t to mess with nature. It’s to keep your home pest protected.
